Limit Food and Drink
Eating in the car will inevitably cause a mess. Even if there are only adults in the car, accidents happen. Crumbs will get spilled and wind up on your carpet or seats. That’s why it’s best not to eat in the car at all.
But with kids or long road trips, this advice is not always plausible. We recommend limiting snacks when possible and making rules for what snacks or drinks are okay in the car. For kids, choose snacks that aren’t messy and won’t leave crumbs, like string cheese or grapes.

Spot Clean as Needed
Wiping up spills as they happen will prevent stains from setting. Keep baby wipes or something similar on hand for quick cleanups. We also recommend keeping a hand vacuum in your car for any crackers or crumbs.
If your kid does get granola bar crumbs on your carpet, you’ll want to be able to vacuum that up as soon as possible. Leaving it until the end of the road trip could mean little feet grinding bits of food into your carpet. And trust us, some things never come out all the way.
Air It Out
This is the simplest way to reduce wear and tear on your truck’s interior: air it out. Drive with the windows down when it’s a nice day out. This will help circulate the air, keeping your car smelling fresh. This is especially important if you drive with pets or athletic kids—those odors get old very quickly.
Protect Your Surfaces
